No, not those kind. The good kind, from the late fifties and early sixties.

I remember True magazine; my dad subscibed to both it and Argosy. Both were interchangeable, full of “I had to gnaw off my own foot to escape the Hottentots”-type stories, and both were great fodder for twelve-year-old boys.

My mom didn’t quite approve me reading them, but there were no girlie pics, which left her position a little untenable.

Why can't we have magazines like that anymore?

Those mags were too darn racy for my staunch Catholic Dad. I made do with Outdoor Life, Sports Afield and Field & Stream. Back in those days, they usually featured at least one heart-pounding adventure involving thundering hooves, gnashing teeth and a just-in-time shot from the hip.

(Happily, when I was about 12, I learned that my uncle, who lived with us, kept a stash of Argosy, True and, (hallelujah!) Playboy, Gent and Sir magazines in his bedroom closet.)

    Nice looking site John. :)
